The Same Difference

The INTERNET has become the great equalizer. What I mean by that is that almost anyone can get her/his work seen by thousands.

That’s good, and that’s bad. It now means there’s so much material out there, finding that “new thing” becomes even more of a challenge.

Despite the new technology, using the INTERNET holds the same problem that has always been the problem with starting a new venture; how are you different? What makes what you do or provide more exciting than all the others out there?

With my job layoff during this pandemic, I have begun laying the groundwork for repursuing a career in writing and digital media.

I have retooled my resume to reflect my skills and experience, which is what a resume should do. But I know that’s just not enough in today’s market.

The Expanding INTERNET

Your resume may get your name into an employer’s head, but the INTERNET is where they are going to find the REAL you.

Okay. I get it. You may hate FACEBOOK, but you’d better have some kind of presence, and it should be presentable.

If you don’t know what TWITTER is, find out NOW. These aren’t just social media accounts; they are social selling points.

Most of us know this. Most of us use these platforms. Again, what makes YOU so unique?

And that’s the question, right?

So employers are back to another technologically new “resume roundup.” But now they are on their phones or computer wishing to high heaven they could CLICK over to DEN OF GEEK, CNN or www.watchingpaintdry.com.

And that’s where you make the sale.

What about a website about you?

You need to pull that employer out of her/his virtual, cyber-resume reviewing hell. You need a website that looks like a website, feels like a website, and informs like a website.

Remember, though; it’s all about you.

I’ve spent some of my quarantined time making my website. I’ve never done anything like this before, but as I explain on the site, it is a “work in progress,” and a website should always be just that, a work in progress.

www.mycinematiks.com

But what’s going to make www.mycinematiks.com stand out?

What would make possible employers visit?

What could get more traffic to the site?

I have an idea.

You may have an idea.

The INTERNET may be the great equalizer, but it comes down to what it always has come down to — our creativity. And because it is ours, it stands out.

But it must have our hearts.

It must have our soul.

And we must believe we will succeed.

It’s the same as it ever was.
